BUYER QUESTIONS

Before the purchase order

Hardwood plywood questions.

What does hardwood plywood mean in an export specification?

It describes plywood with a named hardwood or eucalyptus face, core, or both. A comparable quotation states the face and back species, core construction, grade convention, density, moisture, bond, dimensions, machining requirements and available test documents.

Which core options are available for hardwood plywood?

Options include hardwood-faced poplar or combi core for general furniture, calibrated eucalyptus/hardwood-combi core for repeat machining, and selected all-hardwood or high-ply construction for visible edges and demanding joints. The quotation identifies every core species and the agreed repair limits.

How are oak, maple, walnut, eucalyptus or lauan faces confirmed?

State the commercial species name, any required botanical or origin information, veneer cut, sequence, colour range, face/back grade and permitted repairs. Approve a physical face, back and full-edge sample under the intended stain, paint or clear finish.

How do density, moisture and sheet weight affect the order?

Hardwood plywood constructions are specified within a 560–650 kg/m³ density range and an 8–12% moisture range. Each quotation assigns the appropriate target to the selected face, core and component duty. An approved sheet is weighed so handling, hardware and legal container payload can be calculated from the actual product.

How are CNC machining and screw holding checked?

Use the selected construction and thickness with the intended tooling, support, feed rate, pilot hole, fastener and edge distance. Check routed-edge gaps, chip-out, hole position, exit-face quality, repeated installation and the assembled joint on a representative sample or first article.

Which standard sizes and thicknesses are available?

Standard sizes are 1220×2440 and 1250×2500 mm. Selected constructions can be reviewed for 1525×3050 and 2100×2800 mm after press capacity, density, flatness, handling, packing and payload confirmation. The production range is 3–40 mm, depending on construction.

Which bond and emission documents can be requested?

EN 314 bond testing, EN 315 dimensional checks and EN 717-1/E1 testing can be arranged for the confirmed construction. Applicable US orders can be prepared for TSCA Title VI/CARB requirements. FSC or PEFC transaction claims are available for eligible materials and complete chain-of-custody orders.

How should BB/CC, B/BB or A/B hardwood plywood grades be compared?

Name the grading convention used, then compare face and back defects, knots, splits, patches, repairs, veneer joints, colour variation, sanding, exposed-edge quality and the approved physical sample. The same shorthand can represent different acceptance limits when suppliers use different grading conventions.

What information is needed for a hardwood plywood quotation?

Send the end use, face and back species, core preference, grade convention, approved sample or defect limits, density or weight target, moisture, bond, emission requirement, size, thickness, tolerances, machining, hardware, finish, quantity, packing, destination port and required test documents.
