PRODUCT OPTIONS

Match the product name to the intended wall use and required documents.

T1-11 is a grooved plywood siding family commonly supplied with channels at 101.6 mm (4-inch) or 203.2 mm (8-inch) centres. A complete order states the face species and texture, core lay-up, exterior bond, measured thickness, groove drawing, paired edge, finish and destination documents. Projects requiring APA Rated Siding, PS 1 or another structural option add the applicable qualified product, mill and marking scope.

Structural or APA-marked supply is available through the corresponding qualified product options.

T1-11-style profile

A drawing-controlled groove rhythm produced for a project or destination requirement.

Project documents state the applicable performance and marking option.

Decorative grooved plywood

A plywood face routed to an agreed interior or covered-use pattern.

Exterior siding projects add exterior bond, wall-interface, edge-sealing and finish requirements.
GROOVE RHYTHM

Specify centre spacing, groove geometry and edge offsets together.

Write 101.6 mm or 203.2 mm centre spacing, groove width, depth, first/last offset and joint continuity on the drawing. For 12 mm and other metric constructions, groove depth is selected to retain the required plywood thickness below the channel. A full-width profile sample confirms the uncut thickness, groove-base fibre quality, core exposure and void limits.

WALL / FINISH NEXT STEP

Coordinate support, drainage, openings, finish and maintenance.

Two full-sheet grooved plywood wall fields expose a supported shiplap reveal, sheathing, weather barrier, drainage battens, fasteners and window flashing while an installer seals a site-cut edge
Wall assembly & finishA wall mock-up places the panel beside the weather-resistive, drainage and opening-detail layers so each interface remains visible.

State whether the panel is lining, cladding over sheathing or a drainage cavity, or qualified direct-to-framing siding. The project design coordinates support, wind load, fasteners, flashing, clearances, sealant and maintenance. Exterior phenolic bonding supports glue-line durability, while the weather-resistive barrier, drained cavity, supported joints, flashing, sealed cuts and coating system manage water across the completed wall. Preservative and fire-retardant treatments are specified as separate construction options.

DECISION QUESTIONS

Before the purchase order

Choose the right specification.

What is T1-11 plywood siding?

T1-11 plywood siding is a grooved panel-siding family commonly supplied with parallel channels at 4- or 8-inch centres. A complete specification includes face texture and species, plywood core and lay-up, exterior bond, panel thickness and size, groove geometry, edge profile, finish, wall position and destination documents. A signed profile drawing and paired-edge sample confirm how these inputs work together.

How does T1-11 differ from decorative grooved plywood?

T1-11-style exterior siding combines the selected groove rhythm with exterior-bonded plywood, defined edge geometry, coating and wall-interface requirements. Decorative grooved plywood is available for interior or covered-use patterns. APA Rated Siding and other structural options add qualified product, mill and marking requirements for the specified project.

Should I specify 4-inch or 8-inch groove spacing?

Choose the visual rhythm and project profile, then write the centre spacing as 101.6 mm or 203.2 mm. Four-inch spacing produces more grooves and narrower lands; eight-inch spacing produces broader lands. Complete the drawing with first/last groove offsets, width, depth, side shape, remaining plywood thickness and continuity across the paired joint.

What is the difference between rough-sawn and smooth T1-11?

Rough-sawn pine gives a pronounced timber texture and uses a sample for sawn depth, knots, repairs, colour and coating uptake. Smooth or scratch-sanded faces suit a controlled primer and paint option. Specify the selected face together with the core, exterior bond, groove-base fibre and final coating.

What thickness and edge profile should be specified?

Smooth Metric Grooved Siding uses 12 or 15 mm with a shallow project groove; Rough-Sawn Exterior T1-11 Profile uses 15 or 16 mm for a traditional rough-sawn option; Qualified Structural Siding uses 15 or 18 mm inside its qualification. State nominal and measured range, groove-base remaining thickness and paired edge. A shiplap order needs complementary left/right rebates, cover and joint-fit sample—not merely the word shiplap.

Is T1-11 structural or only exterior cladding?

It can be either, depending on the exact product options. Smooth Metric and most Rough-Sawn Exterior T1-11 orders are specified as cladding unless a separate qualification says otherwise. Direct-to-framing or structural use requires Qualified Structural Siding and requires the applicable construction, span, test/qualification, mark scope and project wind/load design. The profile itself does not prove structural capacity.

How is water managed in a T1-11 plywood siding wall?

Exterior bond supports plywood glue-line durability for the nominated exposure requirements. The completed wall manages water through the weather-resistive barrier, drainage cavity where required, supported joints, opening and penetration flashing, clearances, compatible sealants, sealed cut edges, coating and scheduled maintenance. Paired shiplap edges reduce the exposed joint and work with these wall layers.

Can T1-11 be pressure-treated, primed, painted or stained?

Yes. Pressure treatment is specified by hazard or use class and preservative process. Primer, paint or stain is matched to the selected face, moisture condition and all-edge/site-cut sealing method. Exterior bond and any structural classification are stated separately in the same order specification.

Which EN, Australian and APA/PS 1 options can be planned?

For an EN-specified order, confirm EN 636, EN 314, EN 315, EN 326 and, where applicable, EN 13986 with the live CPR/DoP/CE scope. Australian structural projects can target AS/NZS 2269.0 with the NCC wall pathway and import file. North American projects can target DOC PS 1-22, current PRP 210 and APA 303. Each is project- and product-specific; none is claimed as currently held for every panel.

What information is required for a T1-11 plywood siding RFQ?

Provide destination and exposure; cladding, over-sheathing or direct-framing use; face species, texture, colour and repair limits; core, lay-up and exterior bond; 4-inch, 8-inch or custom profile drawing; groove width, depth and remaining thickness; square or paired shiplap edge; thickness, size, finish or treatment, project wind and support inputs, sample, quantity, pack, documents and target date.
